  • The GISconnector for Excel consists of one Add-In for ArcGIS Desktop and of a second Add-In for Microsoft Excel. The two Add-Ins communicate with each other.

Questions about the test licence

  • Are there limitations to the test licence?
  • All functions are enabled.

  • The test version can only be used for a limited time frame.

Questions about installation

  • What components does GISconnector consist of?

GISconnector consists of an add-in for ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop, a Microsoft Excel add-in and the Geolabs Administrator (licence management). All components are installed together in a single setup operation.

  • Do I need local administrator rights for the installation?

Yes.

  • What are the minimum system requirements?

The latest GISconnector Version runs on:

  • Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit versions in each case)
  • ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 – 10.8
  • Microsoft Excel 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 (32-bit and 64-bit versions in each case)

We recommend installing the latest service pack for the operating system and for ArcGIS and Excel.

  • What languages are supported by GISconnector?

GISconnector currently supports two languages: German and English.

  • If I install a newer version of ArcGIS Desktop (e.g. upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2), must GISconnector first be uninstalled?

GISconnector installation differs from one ArcGIS Desktop version to another. GISconnector must therefore be re-installed following an ArcGIS version upgrade. It is not necessary to uninstall it first; this is carried out automatically.

Questions about licensing

  • How does licensing work?

Licensing is linked to the hardware. The licence key can only be used for one computer.

  • Are concurrent use licences available?

Concurrent use licences will be available from version 2.0 on.

Technical questions

  • What ArcGIS data formats are supported by GISconnector?

GISconnector works with feature classes and standalone tables. All ArcGIS data formats are supported: shapefiles, personal and file geodatabases and enterprise geodatabases for the relevant ArcGIS Desktop versions. From version 1.2 on the GISconnector for Excel does support the following SDE-Geodatabases: Oracle, SQL-Server, PostgreSQL.

  • Is there a limit to the number of data records that can be processed?

No. GISconnector is only limited by the system limits of the software components.

  • For Microsoft Excel
  • For ArcGIS, the upper limits of the specific data format apply.

e.g. file geodatabase: https://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/018s/018s00000002000000.htm

Yes, with the GISconnector link manager, any number of Excel tables can be linked to feature classes.

You can cancel an existing maintenance agreement no later than 3 months before it is due to end. Notice of cancellation must be submitted in writing.

  • I am no longer covered by a maintenance agreement; is it possible to regain maintenance cover?

Yes, the same applies as for ArcGIS Desktop.

  • Is GISconnector maintenance coupled with ArcGIS maintenance?

No, the maintenance period for GISconnector is independent of that for ArcGIS.
