Welcome to the Quick Tutorial Format!


To get started quickly with the GISconnector we are going to show you how to adjust the format in Excel to work with the GISconnector fluently.
 

Important hint:
You can use the tutorials ‘Quick Tutorial Starter’ as of version 2.1 and ‘Quick Tutorial Format’ as of version 2.3.
 

 

Learning objective

Aim of the tutorial is to illustrate the operating principle of the GISconnector regarding to table formats. The tolerance of Excel concerning formatting of tables is quite high compared to attribute tables in ArcGIS, which are database tables with strict format requirements. In this tutorial, we will show you where you must pay attention when formatting Excel tables to work with GISconnector for Excel successfully and without any trouble.
 

Requirements

·     You are familiar with the basic functionalities of the GISconnector.
·     You can create a connection between ArcGIS and Excel.
 
 

Structure of the Tutorial

The tutorial consists of four assignments that will illustrate how Excel table formatting can differ from ArcGIS table formatting.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Start tutorial

If you have not opened the Quick Tutorial yet, go to Start → All Programs → GI Geolabs GmbH and click ‘GISconnector Tutorials’. A dialogue will open. Choose the tutorial you want to conduct.
The dataset contains an ArcMap document, a File geodatabase and an Excel table.
 

Reset tutorial

If you have performed the Quick Tutorial before and want to reset the data, carry out the following steps:
 
1. Close all ArcGIS and Excel documents belonging to the tutorial.
2. Navigate to your user directory. In Documents/GI Geolabs GmbH/GISconnector for Excel Tutorials, delete the folder to the according tutorial.
3. Now go to Start → All Programs → GI Geolabs GmbH and click ‘GISconnector Tutorials’. A dialogue will open. Choose the tutorial you want to conduct.
 
The tutorial will be started with the original data so you can conduct it again. Besides the ArcGIS and Excel documents all GISconnector connections will be reset as well.
 

Important advice:
Tutorial data will be maintained during an un- resp. reinstallation. This means you must reset the Quick Tutorial manually in this case, as well.
